Hey Guys,
The Uber cab Incident, and the everyday news of some woman
or the other being raped, has become so common, that somewhere, these kind of
happenings have stopped pinching me. Yes! You have read it right! It has stopped pinching a sensitive female like
me! I don’t want to get into the theory
of what makes people do such an unforgivable crime. The reasons could be many,
starting from illiteracy. But the point is, how we deal with them can make a
difference. We’ve all heard enough of, ‘Let’s be proactive, instead of
reactive’. But it’s high time, to think HOW?
How can a girl ignore the constant gazes she gets from cheap men, in a public bus? How can a
lady not feel uncomfortable? Women are changing the world, leading industries,
taking over companies, bringing a revolutionary change in how things are done.
Even the amended law requires women, to be a part of the Board of Directors.
The society doesn’t lack women, nor does it lack the potential and the
productivity which women can bring about in the world, but what the society
really lacks is- the open mindedness and respect for women entrepreneurs. More
importantly, it lacks the attitude of giving women the freedom they deserve.
Why else, would I think twice before leaving for a bar at
night? Why am I sceptical of getting myself drunk at the parties? Why am I
scared of wearing short dresses? Why am I scared of using public transport at
night? The impossible, illiterate*
migrants have paralysed us and have literally chopped off our wings! We cannot
be ourselves! True, ‘when in Rome, do
the Romans’ goes a saying. But then, why can Rome not get better?
My previous blog is somewhat similar to the one you’re
reading now. Because, it offers the same solution, though the issues are
different. And that is- People getting together, joining hands, and doing
something about it. I believe, the first step to getting an issue solved is, by
getting it noticed. That’s exactly what I do, through my blog posts.
The society not only consists of Rapists/Potential rapists,
it also consists of people who abuse children and get them to work at their
homes and other places. Child labour is as bad as raping somebody, if not less
(if you ask me). In fact, of late, something about the newspaper shocked me. I
was turning the pages, when I noticed an article which read, “GOVT SCHOOL MAKES GIRLS WORK AS LABOURERS”.
And I was taken aback. Little students, aged 8-12 years were asked to do stuff
like carry bricks. And their task was monitored by none other than their own
teachers. These things must be stopped. But who will stop? It’s You &
Me. But it all starts with taking care
of ourselves first. I’m trying my bit, to make it easier for you all to do so,
by quoting a newspaper, because this information might come in, handy for
Delhiites:
“Next time you notice a traffic violation or illegal parking
on city roads, click a photograph or make a video and send it as a whatsapp
message to 8750871493. A traffic cop will act on the issue and the action taken
report will be messaged to the sender as a follow up measure. If you want to
complain about any traffic violation, including refusals by auto-rickshaws and
taxis, unauthorized parking, faulty traffic signals or any other issue, send a
photo or short video clip, with your name, place, date and time” .- Source:
TOI.
So now this is me, who am awaiting a flashier and a more
independent lifestyle, which strangely has been taken away by people totally
unrelated to me. :)
Illiterate*: For
me, an illiterate person is not somebody who doesn’t possess qualifications and
degrees, but someone who is inhumane (no matter how qualified he/she is) would
be illiterate.
Awesome!!! I second ur thought of making a difference...will surely do my bit
ReplyDeleteThank you sooooooo much Bhawna sweetie! :) I'm glad you took this time out to read the post! :)

DeleteGreat views. This will surely make some difference in the society. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThanks a ton Sakshi! :)
DeleteI had a few observations in respect to your post.
ReplyDelete1. I think there is a lack of women in the country. This leads to men getting frustrated and commuting such heinous crimes. I certainly believe pre natal sex determination should be taken a harder stand against. The penalty for such must include stripping of medical licenses of the doctor(s) incharge and the penalty must not be limited to such.
2. I noticed that you mentioned illiterate migrants. I don't think we can blame them for the crisis we are in. They have as much a right to coexist in any place in India as they seem fit.
3. My last observation is sure to bring in a lot of divisive opinions. I believe that women should take more precautions because as we clearly are able to see, men just aren't able to change. I'm not defending men. Every man, literate, illiterate, smart, stupid, young, old knows that rape is not acceptable. Yet men do it. I'm just assessing the harsh reality. Women need to take more precautions. They need to be paranoid about their safety. Because the need of the hour calls for it.
Above are just my opinions and I hope I don't get any hate comments for the same.
Cheers
Aditya Goel
